God HATED Esau Hebrews 12:16-17
Lest there be
any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his
birthright. For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the
blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he
sought it carefully with tears. "Edom

Rebekah saith unto Isaac, `I have been disgusted with my life because of the
presence of the daughters of Heth; if Jacob take a wife of the daughters of

and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, Thou shalt not take a

Mount Seir. It’s terrain was mountainous
and easily fortified and its land was fertile. Edom lay south of the Dead Sea
and bordered on the Red Sea at Elath and Ezion Geber. The Edomites were of Semitic origin,
traditionally descendants of Esau, and lived by hunting. They dispossessed the Horite inhabitants of
Seir and organized themselves along tribal lines headed by a chieftan (called
allooph), later consolidating into a monarchy. The Edomites were traditional
enemies of the Israelites; they fought Saul and were defeated by David who
partly annexed their land. The Edomites
regained their independence during the reign of Jehoram, but wars between the
two states were frequent. In the Eighth
Century BCE, the Edomites became vassals of Assyria. At the time of the
destruction of the First Temple, they plundered and looted in association with
the Babylonians, and being driven out from Seir by the Natabeans, occupied S
Judah during or after the period of the Exile.
The Edomites were conquered by John Hyrcanus who forcibly converted them
to Judaism, and from then on they constituted a part of the Jewish people,
Herod being one of their descendants.
During Titus’s siege of Jerusalem, they marched in to reinforce the
extreme elements, killing all they suspected of peace tendencies. Thereafter,
they ceased to figure in Jewish history.

for the LORD has spoken. (Oba 1:21) And saviors shall ascend Mount Zion
to rule the mount of Esau, and the kingship shall be the LORD'S. From Easton's Dictionary: Edomite tribes settled also
in the south of Judah, like the Kenizzites (Gen_36:11), to whom Caleb and Othniel belonged (Jos_15:17). The southern part of Edom was known
as Teman (2.) Idumea (Isa_34:5-6; Eze_35:15). "The field of Edom" (Gen_32:3), "the land of Edom" (Gen_36:16), was mountainous (Oba_1:8-9, Oba_1:19, Oba_1:21).
It was called the land, or "the mountain of Seir," the rough hills on
the east side of the Arabah. It extended from the head of the Gulf of Akabah,
the Elanitic gulf, to the foot of the Dead Sea (1Ki_9:26), and contained, among other cities,
the rock-hewn Sela (q.v.), generally known by the Greek name Petra (2Ki_14:7). It is a wild and rugged region,
traversed by fruitful valleys. Its old capital was Bozrah (Isa_63:1). The early inhabitants of the land
were Horites. They were destroyed by the Edomites (Deu_2:12), between whom and the kings of
Israel and Judah there was frequent war (2Ki_8:20; 2Ch_28:17). Jer 40:11 Also when all the Jews in
Moab, and among the Ammonites, and in Edom, and in all the countries,
heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah, and that he had set
over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan; Jer 41:3 Ishmael also killed all the Jews
who were with him, with Gedaliah, at Mizpah, and the Chaldeans who were found
there, the men of war. 2Ch 20:1 And it happened after this the sons
of Moab, and the sons of Ammon came in, and with them others besides the Ammonites, to
battle against Jehoshaphat. "Jews"
in the Old Testament is translated from the Hebrew word "Yhuwdiy"
which is Strong's #3064: patronymically from 3063; a Jehudite (i.e.
Judaite or Jew), or descendant of Jehudah (i.e. Judah):--Jew. Gen 6:10 And Noah fathered three sons, Shem, Ham,
and Japheth. Gen 9:18 And the sons of Noah that went out of
the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. And Ham is the father of Canaan. Gen 10:6 And Ham's sons were Cush, and
Mizraim, and Put, and Canaan. Gen 10:7 And the sons of Cush were Seba
and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabtecha. And Raamah's sons were Sheba
and Dedan. Jer 36:14 And all the rulers sent Jehudi,
the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, to Baruch,
saying, Take the scroll in your hand, in which you have read in the ears of the
people, and come. So Baruch, the son of Neriah, took the scroll in his hand and
came to them. Thus the
"jews" in the Old Testament were not descendants of Shem [read:
Semites], Eber [read: Hebrews], Abraham [read: children of Abraham], nor Jacob
[read: Israelites]. They were Moabites, Cushites, Canaanites, Edomites,
they lived among the Ammonites, but they were never Israelites. --- scott michaels scott_24002@yahoo.com wrote: "34" "In the
GENESIS 25 story of Esau selling the birthright to Jacob, we read that he sold
it for 'red pottage...therefore was his name called Edom.' Edom means 'Red'. "35" "GENESIS
28:9 tells us that Esau went 'unto Ishmael and took unto the wives which he had
Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael,' GENESIS 36:2 says he also 'took his wives of
the daughters of Canaan; Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Aholibaman
the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite.' So these descendants
of Esau would be called ISHMAELITES, CANAANITES, HITTITES, AND HIVITES! The
very people God later ordered Israel NOT to marry! "36" "God
makes sure we know of the separation of Esau and Jacob (Israel), for GENESIS
36:6 tells us, 'Esau took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters...and went
into the country from the face of his brother Jacob.' Therefore Esau's
offspring would NOT take husbands and wives from the Hebrews, BUT FROM THE
ISMAELITES AND CANAANITES AMONG WHOM THEY DWELT! In a few generations they
would be almost full-blooded ISMAELITES and CANAANITES. "37" "The rest
of GENESIS 36 tells us four times that Esau 'is Edom' and the 'father of
Edomites.' Adding this up we would expect Esau's progeny to be known as
Ishmaelites, Canaanities, Hittites, Hivites, or collectively as 'EDOMITES'.
Remember as you read on that Edom means 'Red'. "38" "Several
hundred years later when God delivered the Israelites from Egypt, NUMBERS 20
tells us THE FIRST PEOPLE TO FIGHT THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL WERE THE 'EDOMITES'!
All the books of history in the Bible tell of ENMITY AND WAR between Israel and
'Edom'. As I've shown, the Exodus Israelites were NOT called 'Jews'. Only
Israelites of the Judah Kingdom (500 years after the Exodus) were called Jews,
from the name 'Judahite'. (2 KINGS 16:6) "39" "In the
book of Esther, when the king sent out the decree to protect the 'Jews' (who
were the Judahites of the Babylonian captivity), 'many of the people of the
land BECAME JEWS; for the fear of the jews fell upon them.' (ESTHER 8:17) This
king ruled 'from India unto Ethiopia' compassing the territory occupied by the
Hittites, Hivites, Jebusites and Canaanites, so it is probable that tens of
thousands of these people collectively known as 'EDOM' professed the name 'Jew'
to escape the king's wrath. They were NOT descendants of Jacob-Israel, though
they had now become 'Jews'. This was 500 years BEFORE Christ. "40" "In EZRA
9:1 after the Jewish remnant returned to Palestine, we find they took wives
among the Hittites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Jebusites, Ammonites, Moabites,
Egyptians, and the Amorites; thereby adding more of 'Edom' to the 'Jews' who
lived in Jerusalem at the coming of Jesus Christ. "41" "Coming
down through history to near the time of Christ we find that Flavius Josephus
states that the 'Idumeans' (Edomites) became part of 'Jewry', as we have seen
from the book of ESTHER. This would explain why some 'Jews' believed the
Christ, and other 'Jews' hated Him. Those who believed were simply the ones of
Israelite ancestry; while those who hated Him were of Esau-Edom! Now go back
and read #23 and #32 before you go on! "23" "You
insist that Jesus came to the Jews, but in JOHN 10:26 Jesus said to the Jews,
'But ye believed me not BECAUSE YE ARE NOT OF MY SHEEP (emphasis added) as I
said unto you. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.'
Which people are the 'sheep' who knew Him and have followed Him the last 1,900
years? "32" In ISAIAH 62:2
God said to Israel, 'Thou shalt be called by a new name which the mouth of the
Lord shall name.' HOSEA 2:17 reads, 'They shall no more be remembered by their
name.' In ISAIAH 65 God said to the enemies of His servant Israel, 'And ye
shall leave your name for a curse unto My chosen; for the Lord GOD shall slay
thee, AND CALL HIS SERVANTS BY ANOTHER NAME.' (emphasis added) These 'enemies'
are yet called by their ancient name of 'Jew', but Israel lost her name and
identity, became the 'Caucasian' Race (from the mountains of our captivity),
and now the 'Christian' nations, named after the Name of our God and our
Redeemer, the Lord Jesus Christ, are FULFILLING HIS PROPHECIES TO ISRAEL! "42" "The
BIBLICA ENCYCLOPEDIA, Vol. 2, Col. 1187, says that the Edomites are part of
Jewry. The scientist and historian Dr. David Davidson wrote: 'Indeed the
Edomites later became completely absorbed in Jewry and under their aggressive
intrusion the Jews became Have you ever wondered about
this verse and its seemingly contradiction to what the rest of the Scriptures say
about Edom. Well many of us have and we present the following from Pastor
Clifton A. Emahiser, 1012 N. Vine Street, Fostoria, Ohio 44830; Phone No. (419)
435-2836. As I promised you in my last
teaching letter #22, I am going to clear up and document the problem with
Deuteronomy 23:7. As I told you before, there are approximately 27,000
transnational errors in our present Bibles. Some various translations by
various translators have attempted to clean up many of these discrepancies, but
the errors are very numerous and overwhelming. The translation of Deuteronomy
23:7 is one of them. I will start by quoting this passage: "Thou shalt not abhor an
Edomite; for he is thy brother: thou shalt not abhor an Egyptian; because thou
was a stranger in his land." From this verse it would
appear that we should welcome all Edomites into our congregations with open
arms, and with no questions asked, and that we are somehow guilty of some dire
contemptible sin for even thinking an evil thought against them. I ask you: Is
this not the impression which seized upon you when you read this passage for
the first time? Remember the guilty, dirty, condemning feeling which overcame
you for even giving the Edomites the slightest hint of disparaging thought,
that possibly Yahweh might suddenly kill you in your very tracks for even
blinking an eye? If this has been your
reaction when reading this passage in the past, forget it, for that is not what
this verse is saying; not even remotely. I happened upon this verse many years
ago when I was listening to a presentation by an Identity speaker who was
making reference to the Edomites by using this verse as one of his points. At
the time, I decided to look into the Hebrew meaning of the word
"Edomite" for myself. I found the Strong's Exhaustive Concordance Of
The Bible," assigned the term "Edomite" the Hebrew word
"130 which says: "130 ... Edômîy,
...Edôwmîy, ed-o-mee': patronymic [derived from father's name] from #123; an
Edomite, or descendant from (or inhabitant of) Edom: Edomite. See #726 Which
had the following to say: #726 ... Arôwmîy, ar-o-mee';
A CLERICAL ERROR FOR #130; an Edomite (as in the margin): Syrian. At once the truth struck me
(and this was about 15 years ago), for if the proper rendering was
"Syrian" instead of "Edomite," it would make all the
difference in the world. Over the years, since that time, I have pointed this
clerical error out to many people of our persuasion. At the time, I knew this
made more sense if Deuteronomy 23:7 were to correctly read "Syrian"
rather than "Edomite" for the Syrians were Abraham's relatives, in
which case this verse would read: "Thou shalt not abhor a
SYRIAN: for he is thy brother, thou shalt not abhor an Egyptian; because thou
wast a stranger in his land." Over the years, I have been
satisfied that the word should have been Syrian instead of Edomite. I remember
one party who challenged me, indicating that it was only a clerical error, and
really didn't mean anything. I finally came to the conclusion that it would be
a hard proposition to prove and decided not to push the point openly any
further. That is, however, until
recently, when I was preparing for this lesson, I accidentally discovered what
the CLERICAL ERROR was. I will now reveal to you how I made this discovery. As
I had decided to take up the topic of Esau, I was in the process of reading
anything and everything I could find on the subject. I was reading along in
"The Interpreter's Dictionary of the Bible," volume E-J, page 24,
under the subtitle Edom, when I read this: "...there are places
where, because of the similarity between the letters ? (d) and ? (r), the text
has wrongly read ???, 'Aram' (i.e. Syria), and ?????, 'Arameans" (i.e.,
Syrians), for ???, 'Edom,' and ?????, 'Edomites,' such as 2 Kings 16:6; 2 Chronicles
20:2, where the KJV has followed the MT, but the RSV has followed an emended
text. "Note: I have followed
the Hebrew characters as faithfully as I know how to do on my computer; I may
have made a mistake ... The main thing to notice here is the 'similarity
between the letters ? (d) and ? (r). You can see very readily, that a very
small slip of the pen can change the word from Edomite to Samian, or Syrian to
Edomite. I will enlarge these two Hebrew letters and place them side by side so
you can observe the difference in them: ? ? With this very small change
in the Hebrew writing, and the word can be changed from Syrian to Edomite!
Think of it this way, syRian or eDomite. By this above slight change, the
Hebrew 'r' sound is changed to a 'd' sound. Since I originally wrote
this, I now realize that the small remnant of Judah from Jerusalem who went
into Babylonian captivity spoke Hebrew when they went in and spoke Chaldee when
they came out seventy years later. Also, when they went in they
were using a rounded style of Hebrew to write in, and when they came out they
were using a square style of Hebrew. Is it possible that the changing from a
rounded style to a square style produced such an error? Well, if it did, how
many other mistakes are there because of this? After all, it is absurd to
believe we should not "abhor an Edomite" when the Almighty hates them
Himself. "And I HATED ESAU, and
laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.
Whereas Edom saith, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the
desolate places; thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will
throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, THE PEOPLE
AGAINST WHOM THE LORD HATH INDIGNATION FOR EVER." (Malachi 1:3-4) "And Edom said unto him,
Thou shalt not pass by me, lest I come out against thee with the sword...And he
(Edom) said, Thou shalt not go through. And Edom came out against him with much
people, and with a strong hand. Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through
his border: wherefore Israel turned away from him." (Numbers 20:18-21) Edomites [EE dum ites] descendants of
Edom, or ESAU; an ancient people who were enemies of the Israelites. During the
days of Abraham, the region which later became the home of the Edomites was
occupied by more than one tribe of non-Israelite peoples. When Esau moved to
this region with his family and possessions, the HORITES already lived in the
land Genesis 36:20. |
