Migraine headaches from MSG, legally hidden in ingredients
is just one of the pitfalls of shopping for nutritional products in your local health food
store. Product aging is another serious problem. Even if you choose a high
volume outlet, that stores distributor network and the actual manufacturers contribute to
product aging that averages from six to eighteen months in the nutritional products
category. In addition, many of the smaller manufacturers have no "in
house" labs and many of the larger companies put price far ahead of quality in
ingredients purchasing decisions. The following article is representative of the
kind of difficulties you face in an essentially blind decision making process. MSG, THE HIDDEN POISON By Dr. David & Serene Denton We have uncovered what may be one of the most important discoveries in our research, AND POSSIBLY ONE OF THE MOST INSIDIOUS CONSPIRACIES FOSTERED AGAINST THE PUBLIC WITHOUT THEIR KNOWLEDGE OR PERMISSION! YOUR HEALTH IS AT SERIOUS RISK! The secret culprit is Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) hidden in most of the prepared foods consumed by people in this country. We are horrified at what we have found out about the pervasiveness of MSG hidden under other names and aliases, so as to go undetected. We thought we had been avoiding it for years; but didn't know that it was being concealed in almost all of our food. In our clinical research, we have developed new techniques to determine levels of toxicity, and have found MSG to be more toxic than all of the other toxins, poisons and allergens that we find in our testing of sick patients. There is even a stronger reaction to MSG than to Arsenic or Mercury. Here are some important excerpts from an article
written by George R. Schwartz, M.D. a noted toxicologist, and author of the book, "In
Bad Taste, the MSG syndrome". "I became interested in Monosodium Glutamate as a part of my work on food poisoning. This is the first important point you need to understand about MSG. A reaction to it is a drug reaction! It is not an allergen, it is a poison. There is a very great difference between the two. An allergen seems less threatening, since most people assume that it won't be a problem for them. A poison on the other hand, applies to everyone. MSG is toxic to everyone, at some dose. Those people who think that MSG doesn't bother them are wrong. Body processes are being disturbed. They have simply not made the connection between their occasional headaches and MSG. "MSG is a sodium salt of Glutamic Acid, an amino acid, and is a drug. It acts as an excitatory neurotransmitter. It basically causes the nerve cells to discharge an electrical impulse and that's the basis of its use as a flavor enhancer. Food companies learned that MSG could increase the flavor and aroma, and enhance acceptability of commercial food products. Equally important they learned that it could also suppress undesirable or "off" flavors, bitterness, and sourness, and eliminated the "tinny" taste of canned foods. This is the reason food companies in general have no Intention of giving up MSG as an additive in their products." Our national consumption of MSG went from roughly one million pounds in 1950 to 300 times that amount today. Here's the bottom line: As the dose increases, every single human will react to MSG at some point. At certain doses it becomes toxic enough to cause illness. As with any poison, at higher doses, it is without exception, fatal. Some of the common reactive symptoms that you may experience from ingesting MSG are:
The following is a partial list of the names in which MSG has been concealed, in order to be included in food without disclosure. Accent Ajinomoto Autolyzed Yeast Bouillon Barley Malt Broth Calcium Caseinate Sodium Caseinate Flavorings Malt Extract Malt Flavoring Natural Flavors Natural Flavorings Natural Beef Flavoring Natural Pork Flavoring Natural Chicken Flavoring Natural Seasonings Gourmet Powder Glutavene Glutacyl Hydrolyzed Oat Flour Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein (HVP) Hydrolyzed Plant Protein Hydrolyzed Milk Protein Kombo Extract Mel-Jing RL-5O Textured Protein Seasonings Subu Spices (sometimes) Read those labels, and ask the right questions. Most restaurants use a lot of MSG, and are NOT aware of it. The most common source is a frequently added product called "Natural Flavors". This product contains approximately 40% MSG. This is what we mean by hidden. You can read labels and think it is free of MSG, when in fact its part of the "Natural Flavors" additive. Mayonnaise and ketchup and many varieties of mustards contain Natural Flavors, as well as most packaged and canned foods, including even teas and diet foods, desserts, ice creams and cakes. Also avoid prepared drinks like Coke & Pepsi, Iemonade, etc, unless you read the labels. If you ask the restaurant servers, they will deny that the restaurants are using it. (They don't know). Carry your list of MSG aliases with you. Even items in the health food stores must be checked, as well as diet foods, frozen foods, and fast foods. Most commercial salad dressings, soup bases, and meat stocks have some form of it, as well as dairy products, sauces, seasoning mixtures, frozen foods, teas and all convenience foods. Remember the motive is high profits at the expense of the health of millions of people. YOU CAN GET THIS TOXIN OUT OF YOUR LIFE! It requires a return to fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, fish, poultry, and grains. It requires that you avoid prepared or packaged foods, unless you have checked the list of ingredients in every thing that you eat. Be alert. This may require more discipline than anything you can imagine, due to the fact that when you are hungry, it is easy to let down and just eat something without checking, or just because its embarrassing or inconvenient. But once you have been MSG free, when you get a dose, you will be much more aware of the reactive symptoms it causes. If you are dining out, order things cooked or steamed without commercial seasonings, and mix your own salad dressings at the table (oil & vinegar or lemon) or bring your own with you. Once you get used to it, it becomes easier. Once you start to feel better (after a test week or two in which you have really worked to eliminate MSG), you may find you are really motivated to continue, especially when some of the unpleasant health problems disappear from your life. Instead of dragging through life, you may find a dramatic new sense of health that you haven't felt in a long time. After you discover for yourself the reality of this hidden poison, we hope you will spread the word to others. Together we can make a change!
