Of interest to a forum on family law should be the effects on education of children now growing up in single mother households. As the percent of children in single mother households increased from 12% to almost 40%, SAT scores plunged 77 points, leaving the US in15th place out of the 19 countries which took the "Inernational Assessment of Educational Progress" test. This testing did not include countries like Japan and Germany, up to 96% of whose students take calculus in high school, versus only 4% in the US. (Source: US Dept. of Education, Digest of Education Statistics, Table 394). The long term effects of this kind of erosion of education quality may be more devastating to society than the points already mentioned on this forum. Its adverse impact on family law as well as the rest of industry and society can only be imagined. Art
